Appetizers are hit any time of the year. We always need small bites for family get togethers, Holidays and most of all, FOOTBALL season! We don’t use many shortcuts but crescent roll dough is hard to beat!

How to Make these simple mini cheese tarts

It is a rare thing when I use a short cut but packaged Crescent dough is really hard to replicate for todays home cooks. So take this shortcut and still have all of the home made goodness you expect from the other ingredients.

  • CRECENT ROLLS
  • SWISS CHEESE
  • BACON
  • GREEN ONION
  • EGG
  • WHIPPING CREAM

Step by Step for Cheese, Onion and Bacon Tarts

No special equipment is needed but I do suggest a SILICONE MINI MUFFIN TIN. There is a helpful link to several items we used to make this recipe easier at the bottom of this post.

Lightly flour a flat surface. Unroll crescent dough as well as possible to keep in one large square. Pinch perforated edges together.

Roll out to even out and make larger and then cut into 24 small squares for mini muffins.

Gently shape and place each square into the mini muffin tin.

Sprinkle cheese in each cup in equal parts.

In a small bowl, mix egg and whipping cream until mixed well.

Add Bacon and onions to each muffin cup, distributing evenly.

Bake at 375 until edges are brown and filling is set. Cool in pan for 5 minutes and transfer to a cooling rack for a few minutes more.

How to Store

Once cooled, these can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to a week.

What other fillings can I use?

The cream and egg mixture along with any type of shredded cheese are a must. Feel free to change the bacon and onion for any other substitution. Ham or even sausage are great ideas along with any type of seasonings.

Can these be made in a regular muffin tin?

They can. You can cut out 12 and use the same recipe. You may have to increase your cooking time to 20 to 30 minutes.

How long will they last?

They will last at room temperature for 4-6 hours in a cool area. If stored in the refrigerator, they will last up to a week.

Can you freeze Mini Cheese Tarts?

Once cooled, wrap them in freezer safe packaging and they can be frozen for up to 3 months.

Can you double or half the recipe?

This is an easy recipe to double or even half for any need you may have. Our recipe card allows you to set the quantity you need and adjusts the ingredients accordingly. See it at the bottom of this post.

How to Reheat them

If reheating from refrigerated, place them in a 250 degree oven just until cheese is bubbly, about 10 minutes. If they have been frozen, remove them from freezer first and allow them to thaw in the refrigerator overnight.

Ingredients

  • 1 can Crescent dough
  • 1/3 cup Swiss cheese grated
  • 1/4 cup Bacon cooked, drained and chopped
  • 1 tbsp Green onion chopped
  • 1 Egg
  • 3 tbsp Heavy Whipping Cream

Instructions
