Why Brooke loves this recipe!

Recipes are like antiques. They are meant to be handed down from one generation to another. Each one holding a special memory or nostalgic memory. Here is why we love this one!

Logo for "The Buttered Home" featuring a butter churn in the center enclosed by a circular design. The text "EST 2018" is on either side of the churn. Below the circle, the text reads "THE BUTTERED HOME" with the tagline "home cooking made easy" underneath.

When I make these special treats during the holidays, I can hardly wait to give them to friends and family! Big D is not the biggest fan of peanut butter, so there’s less chance that these will get gobbled up around the house before I can share them with all the real peanut butter fans that I know and love!

Substitutions & Variations

With this recipe, here are a few good customizations to help get you going.

Nuts – We love peanuts in these treats, but you can easily substitute your favorite! Walnuts, cashews . . . take your pick!
Chocolate – While white chocolate is our preference for these snowballs, we know chocolate folks have their favorites, so go for it with dark or milk chocolate adaptations!
Sugar – A sugar substitute is totally ok for a more health-minded version of these.

Notes

*Pro Tip- add a half a teaspoon more of butter to chocolate before microwaving to help loosen and add a bit of shine.

🍴 PRO TIP!

Keep your butter at room temperature for ease of mixing. You can even grate the butter to make it easier. Butter really helps the chocolate chips mix and get consistent. Coconut oil works great for this as well!

🗹 RECIPE FAQ’S

Why did my snowballs turn out crumbly?

If your butter is still cold or there is a little too much sugar, they can turn out crumbly. You can knead your mix a little more or add another quarter cup of peanut butter in to help avoid this.

Can I add in other toppings, like sprinkles?

Certainly! Dip the snowballs right in the sprinkles or add a dash while the chocolate is setting up!

Can I use food coloring for different occasions?

We think that’s a fantastic idea and a great way to adapt these for any holiday or event! Pink for Valentine’s Day or alternating green and red for Christmas treats! You get the idea!
