Easy Medjool Date Candy Bars

These EASY MEDJOOL DATE CANDY BARS are a nutritious alternative to store bought candy bars. Much like the loved snickers bar, this date and nut candy bar made with just a few ingredients are a delicious and healthier alternative.

Chocolate-covered dates sprinkled with salt are placed on a decorative plate. A baking tray lined with parchment paper and more dates is in the background, alongside a floral-patterned cloth.

Ever since seeing a ton of variations of the snickers dates on TikTok, I have been obsessed! I really like knowing what goes into my food and with a huge sweet tooth, these were a dream come true.

We tried smashing the dates and several variations of chocolate and peanut butter and landed on this simple, almost like date turtles type of chocolate dates version. We love it and sure hope you will too.

Ingredients

Our easy medjool date candy bars are, well, easy! We will give you a ton of specifics in the substitutions and variations section of this post to get the best result but if you can get medjool dates and have peanut butter, creamy or crunchy, chocolate chips and butter, these are a cinch to make.

Nine chocolate-covered dates are scattered on crumpled parchment paper. The dates are sprinkled with coarse salt, and a few have almond pieces peeking out. The chocolate is unevenly coated, giving a rustic appearance.

What You’ll Need

  • Medjool dates – with the pits in are the best kind. They are meatier and tend to not be as dry as the pitted.
  • Crunch peanut butter – you can use creamy too.
  • Semi sweet chocolate chips – easy to get and have a mild chocolate flavor.
  • Butter and Salt – butter for melting the chocolate and salt for flavor and decoration on the date candy.

Instructions

This is so easy, I hate to even call it a recipe. Pitting and stuffing the dates will be the hardest thing you do here. While your fingers will get messy, they will be tasty to clean up! No bake desserts like our PEANUT BUTTER BALLS and COCONUT BLISS BALLS are easy and something you can get the kids involved in too!

Dip each prepared date snickers in the melted chocolate. You may also just like to drizzle the chocolate over each date if you didn’t want as much chocolate on the candy.

Variations and Substitutions

Here we give you some good reasons to use what we recommend as well as some creative ideas to make this recipe your own.

  • Why medjool dates? They are bigger, meatier and tend to have a tad more fiber than regular dates.
  • Peanut Butter – we like using crunchy here to get that peanut pop. Feel free to use creamy if that is your preference and add a sprinkle of peanuts on top with or in place of the salt.
  • Chocolate – we tested dark and milk and landed on semi sweet for a good combination of both. I like the idea of using white chocolate for these too, especially around the holidays. All decorated with pretty sprinkles.
  • Coconut oil in place of the butter – coconut oil works really well to help melt chocolate. If you sub it for the butter, you will only likely need 1 teaspoon to melt the whole lot!
  • Spicy – yep, you read that right! Add a bit of tajin or even cayenne pepper in place of the salt to the top as garnish for a pop of spicy that really does pair well with the chocolate and the caramel taste of the dates. Don’t knock it till you try it!

🍴 PRO TIP!

How to store your dates! The refrigerator is your best friend. If want to keep dates on hand to make this recipe any time your heart desires, they keep better in the fridge than on the counter. Keeping them at room temperature tends to dry them out faster. Keep them fresh in an airtight container in the fridge and this will lock in moisture as well as extend their shelf life.

🗹 RECIPE FAQ’S

Are medjool date candies healthy?

They certainly are better for you than a store bought caramel candy. Dates are full of fiber and other nutrients that aid in digestion. The sugars found in them also are low glycemic which means you are less likely to get a spike in blood sugar.

Why use parchment paper?

First, it always makes clean up easier. Melted chocolate and peanut butter can be messy. Also the dates are sticky on their own so the parchment makes removal easier too. Not to mention, it creates a boundary so the bottoms don’t freeze too hard during the set up phase.

Should I use pitted dates or not?

I believe you should use what is easiest to get or what you have on hand. However, unpitted dates tend to be more moist and have more meat in them. Pitting them yourself is not hard and really tends to lend a better date for your candy foundation.
