    Welcome to The Buttered Home

Hey y’all! I’m Brooke!  Welcome to my new space for all the things I love about home. Home means so many different things to me. It’s the smell of onions cooking to fresh herbs just cut from my garden, it’s the sound of good music in the air coupled with the laughter of my girls.  Home is about the people I love being near. Home is also my Kitchenaid mixer and my InstantPot.

I’m  from the South. It’s not a direction, it’s a destination. We talk slow, eat good and love big. Born and raised in rural Alabama, I was taught to cook by my Mother, Grandmother and Great Aunt. They taught me recipes and more importantly, the old way of cooking. The scratch made, slow made way of cooking. Over the years I have developed quicker ways with gadgets I love but the tried and true methods always win out.

Some of my fondest memories are of days spent as a kid watching my Mother cook and My Aunt Peggy letting me help her while standing on a chair in her kitchen. I learned so much from the two of them by them just letting me be around. When I think of my childhood, the best memories I have are of us all getting together, cooking and fellowshipping together. Both sides of my family have enjoyed family reunions and breaking bread together, even to this day.

When I had my girls, I wanted them to learn and enjoy all of these things like I did growing up. I have tried to make sure they have spent a lot of time in the kitchen, in the garden and even working in the food service industry. From holiday traditions, basic meals to gardening and canning, we have shared in it all.

I hope you’ll follow me on this journey where we can share and grow together in The Buttered Home.

My Sweet Rae, several years ago, making Christmas cookies, all dressed up!   My oldest, Tannar, learning how to prep for canning tomatos. M

Here at The Buttered Home, life can sometimes be messy. Cakes fall, tomato plants get horn worms, even on the best of days. Finding humor in failure is a life lesson we all can need reminding. We plan to show it all here. There is no success without failure first. I have learned some of the best ways to do things better is by first messing them up. Here at The Buttered Home, I hope you will join me in laughing at ourselves and learning from our mistakes. I plan to have lots of fun along the way and will share some of my favorite things.

I hope you’ll follow me on this journey where we can share and grow together in The Buttered Home.
