Whether you have been wrestling cattle all day or manning the phones at a desk job, a hearty supper is always the perfect ending to a busy day. Cowboy beans are a great dump and go recipe that just gets better because it will be ready and waiting when you need it from the crock pot!
Cowboy beans are very similar to OUR BAKED BEANS. But different in a way that you use ground beef and the sauce is sweeter. This recipe has a little heat to it as well. So if you want to take a great side dish and make it a full on meal, Crock Pot Cowboy beans is definitely a great option.
How to Make Crock Pot Cowboy Beans
Some of my favorite recipes are a quick mix together and involve very little cooking from me. Being a working wife and mother proves to be a bit of a balancing act on my home and work life. Recipes like this one make providing a hot meal that we can eat together at a decent time possible. Even on a busy weeknight. So, here is how you do it.
~ Ingredients ~
- 8 slices of bacon, cooked and crumbled
- 1 pound ground beef
- ½ cup diced onion
- 1 can Red Kidney beans, rinsed and drained
- â…“ cup Worcestershire sauce
- 1 can Black beans, rinsed and drained
- ½ cup brown sugar
- â…“ cup ketchup
- ¼ cup Apple cider vinegar
- ¼ teaspoon each of Red Pepper flakes, black pepper and cayenne pepper
- ½ teaspoon salt
~ Method ~
- Cook Bacon and drain and cool. Crumble or chop. Reserve 2 tablespoons of bacon grease. In reserved bacon grease, brown ground beef and onions. Drain.
- In a small bowl, mix Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, ACV, ketchup, salt and peppers. Set aside.
- In a large 6 quart or larger Crock pot, add ground beef, bacon, beans and liquid mixture. Stir well.
- Cover Crock Pot and cook on low for 4 hours or high for 2 hours. Top with Sour cream, cheese or any of your favorite toppings and enjoy!

No, for a better result, use the canned variety in this recipe. Its a really tasty shortcut.
Once the beans have come to room temperature, place in an airtight container for up to a week. This is a great make ahead meal.
Yes. I like to let come to room temperature and store in a freezer safe bag or container after cooking. Or you can assemble it all in a freezer container and freeze before cooking as well. Let thaw at room temperature or in the refrigerator overnight and proceed with cooking in the crock pot.
