What is Alabama White BBQ sauce?
I know what you are thinking. WHITE BBQ sauce? That just doesn’t fit. Trust me. It does. This mayo based creamy, zingy BBQ sauce has had Alabamians in love with it since 1925. Developed in Decatur at Big Bob’s BBQ, this has become a state signature recipe.
Of course, every Bama cook has their own version and The Buttered Home has one that we love as well. And so you can share in the creamy BBQ sauce craze, I will share it with you.
~ Ingredients ~
- 1 cup Duke’s Mayonnaise
- ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon pepper
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ¼ teaspoon hot sauce
- 1 tablespoon sour cream
- 1 tablespoon prepared ground mustard
~ Method ~
- Add all ingredients either in a small bowl or a mason jar.
- Whisk to combine or shake if mixing in a mason jar. You can use right away or store in the refrigerator for later. This recipe should last in the fridge for about two weeks, If it makes it that long!
This delicious staple in Alabama homes was first thought to be made in Decatur Alabama at Big Bob Gibson's Bar-B-Q . A delight for chicken and smoked pork, this creamy sauce is the perfect pairing.
I don't know why you would. Duke's is the best but yes, you sure can. I would stay away from mayo's that are also considered salad dressings, as not to over power the other ingredients.
The sauce is thought to have been born out of necessity. Sometimes, smoking meats can make them dry. This sauce helps put the moisture back into some meats that tend to dry out. It also makes a great marinade for this reason.
Alabama White BBQ Sauce
You can use this white gold on anything! We like it for a dipping sauce and as a finishing sauce for meat on the grill. It is good on fries, chicken, beef and even fish!
Be sure and give it a try. I promise you that you will love it!
