Why Brooke loves this recipe!

Recipes are like antiques. They are meant to be handed down from one generation to another. Each one holding a special memory or nostalgic memory. Here is why we love this one!

Logo for "The Buttered Home" featuring a butter churn in the center enclosed by a circular design. The text "EST 2018" is on either side of the churn. Below the circle, the text reads "THE BUTTERED HOME" with the tagline "home cooking made easy" underneath.

Nothing gets me in the holiday spirit more than making yummy treats for my family and friends! And toffee is always a classic. I love the roasted pecans and the chocolate paired with the toffee. Warm, buttery holiday goodness!

Substitutions & Variations

With this recipe, here are a few good customizations to help get you going.

Chocolate – You can use milk chocolate or semi-sweet chips. The milk chocolate chips will make a sweeter toffee.
Nuts – Almonds, pistachios and walnuts will work as well! Also, you can use pieces for the pecans, but we like to use halves.
Toppings – Top your toffee how ever you like! For instance, if you want even more nuts, try a dusting of finely crushed pecans.

Equipment

I love to share recipes that are no special equipment required but here are a few things that would definitely make this recipe easier!

Storage Tips

Fridge: You can store your toffee in an airtight container or bag at room temp for up to 2 weeks, or in the fridge for up to a month.
Freezer: Freeze your cooled toffee pieces in an airtight container or bag for up to 3 months.

🍴 PRO TIP!

We cube our butter because it makes it melt quicker. Keep your thermometer close by as you monitor your mix and toffee temperature! The thermometer is a handy way to make sure these treats are perfect every time you make them!

🗹 RECIPE FAQ’S

What’s the best way to store my toffee?

Toffee can get a little sticky, so be sure to pack it in and airtight container and keep it at room temp in a dry location. Should last a couple weeks, unless you eat it all up!

Do I have to use pecans in this recipe?

Absolutely not! Feel free to use your favorite! Walnuts, almonds, pistachios. Pick a nut, and I bet it will work!

What’s the best warm beverage to have with this toffee?

Hot chocolate is our favorite (perhaps with mint!), but sometimes just plain old coffee and toffee pair up just fine. Even a simple mint tea might surprise you!
