Have a Slice of Life! Momma B’s Meatloaf
Momma B’s Meatloaf
Comfort food is something we really love here at The Buttered Home. I know for my generation, meat loaf was a staple in our homes. At times, as kids, we probably even got tired of it. I am here to tell you, this Momma B’s meatloaf will rekindle your love for this comfort food.
As you already may know, food stirs stuff up in me. It takes me back to being a kid. Any adult will tell you, there are days I long to be back in the safety of my Momma’s arms. Not a care in the world and be a kid again. Nostalgia. Food. Is. Nostalgic. Why not make some nostalgia for your kids? This meatloaf takes all the good traditional ingredients and amps it up a bit. It’s easy and sooooo flavorful.
You Need:
-
1.5 pounds lean ground beef
-
1/4 onion(I like red!) chopped fine
-
1 cup of day old bread, cubed
-
1 tablespoon Ketchup
-
1 tablespoon prepared mustard
-
1 tablespoon Worcestershire
-
1 egg
Mix all ingredients together and form a loaf. I put in a foil lined pan and cook at 375 degrees 30-45 minutes until meat thermometer reads 179 internal temp.
After it has cooked about 20-30 minutes, I take it out, and baste it with this glorious sauce. It is so much more than the standard ketchup glaze.
-
1 tbsp prepared mustard
-
1 tbsp ketchup
-
1 tbsp horseradish
-
1 tbsp worchestershire
-
1 tbsp brown sugar
-
1 tbsp tomato paste
-
1 tbsp honey
Mix all of these together and pour over the meatloaf and return to the oven for 15-20 more minutes. The smell alone throughout the house is enough to make your blood pressure come on down.
This meatloaf is so good y’all. It takes all of the traditional ingredients and makes them so much more. Adding the bread for Breadcrumbs gives the texture what traditional meatloaf has been missing. The glaze, oh man, that glaze, I swear I hear angels singing when I taste it.
We hope you will try this recipe and give us feedback on what you think! As always, we welcome your comments and pictures so keep them coming!
