Meatloaf, all Fancy

Comfort food is something we really love here at The Buttered Home. We love to show you all kinds too. There is just nothing like a big old bowl of CHICKEN AND DUMPLINGS or a big old serving of BREAD PUDDING WITH BOURBON CREAM.

I know for my generation, meat loaf was a staple in our homes. At times, as kids, we probably even got tired of it. I am here to tell you, this Momma B’s meatloaf will rekindle your love for this comfort food.

As you already may know, food stirs stuff up in me. It takes me back to being a kid. Any adult will tell you, there are days I long to be back in the safety of my Momma’s arms. Not a care in the world and be a kid again. Nostalgia. Food. Is. Nostalgic. Why not make some nostalgia for your kids? This meatloaf takes all the good traditional ingredients and amps it up a bit. It’s easy and sooooo flavorful.

  • 1.5 pounds lean ground beef – You can substitute Ground Turkey here too.
  • 1/4 cup onion, chopped fine – a staple meat loaf ingredient.

  • 1 tablespoon Ketchup – to keep with tradition.
  • 1 tablespoon prepared mustard – for a little something different.
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire – saltiness and a deep flavor.
  • 1 egg – to bind the meatloaf

~For the Sauce

Tips and Tricks

Can I make this healthier?

Yes, use ground turkey in place of the beef. Use cubed cauliflower in place of the bread crumbs. Replace the honey with stevia and you have yourself a healthier version of this recipe!

Can I use another protein besides ground beef?

Yes, Ground turkey or chicken are great in this. Something that people often overlook is the fact that they can use ground venison as well. This is a great protein option that is very lean and low in fat.

Why not use breadcrumbs?

You can. The cubed bread is not necessary but does add a bit of flair to the recipe. It also really adds body to the texture of the meat loaf.

This meatloaf is so good y’all. It takes all of the traditional ingredients and makes them so much more. Adding the bread for Breadcrumbs gives the texture what traditional meatloaf has been missing. The glaze, oh man, that glaze, I swear I hear angels singing when I taste it.
