How to make Crock Pot Baked Potatoes

Let’s face it. Life gets busy. You have two choices. You can run through a drive through and pick up supper or you can have it waiting for you when you get home. I love home cooked meals.

I also work full time and have two very busy girls. Over the years I have learned to make dinner be an easy priority for our little family. Tools like my trusty Crock Pot and best boyfriend kitchen appliance the Instant Pot, have helped me do that and do it with flair!

Now, I know what you are thinking. Who eats baked potatoes for Supper? The Buttered Home does, that’s who!

It doesn’t have to be a bland side dish. You can pair the potatoes with all of the fancy trimmings and add a few too to make it an all in one meal. We even like to top them with BBQ PULLED PORK for a full meal!

I love picking up that $4 whole rotisserie chicken at the grocery store. Add in some seasonings and maybe some BBQ sauce and you have a BBQ Chicken Baked Potato!

You can just about dream up any savory protein to add to this to become something more than your normal baked potato. Now I will show you how to have them ready when you walk in the door!

~ Ingredients ~

  • 6-8 Russet Potatoes, equal in size
  • 1/2 cup Canola Oil
  • 2-4 tablespoons sea salt
  • Fork
  • Aluminum Foil

~ Method ~

  1. Wash and dry potatoes. Poke with a fork on all sides. Drizzle with a little canola oil on top of aluminum foil square. Sprinkle all sides with sea salt and wrap tightly. Do this for each potato.
  2. Place in Crock Pot. If you are baking more than what will cover the bottom, it is ok to stack them on top of one another. For 6-8 potatoes Cook on low for 6 hours or high for 4 hours. For 9 or more potatoes, cook on low for 10 hours or high for 6 hours.
  3. Carefully remove from crock pot, bust open and serve with all of your favorite toppings! Enjoy!

Tips and Tricks

Can I do sweet potatoes like this?

You certainly can. With the crock pot acting as a small oven this is the perfect way to have those potatoes done while you are busy with other things.

How long will they keep?

After cooling to room temperature, they can be stored in an airtight container and will last refrigerated for about a week.

Do I need liquid in the crock pot?

No. This is for heat only. Almost like a small slow cooking oven, no liquid required.
