Good Sleep is Hard to Come By.
Most grown ups know that as we get older, the quest for a good night’s sleep becomes more difficult. I remember as a kid that my parents searched and searched for just the right mattress. I remember thinking they were crazy because i could sleep anywhere!
In the last 10 years of my life, however, things have changed. Things start to hurt the longer you stay still. The phrase “motion is the lotion” has never been more true. As Big D and I have gotten older we have acquired a host of old age ills. Poor lower back, sciatica, neck issues. You name it, we both creak when we get up and you’d think we spent the last 20 years riding bulls for a living the way we used to move first thing in the morning!
About two years ago, Big D came home from a Football trip with a revelation. He had the opportunity to sleep on a fancy mattress at the swanky hotel they were staying in. He said for the first time in years he got out of the bed in one fluid motion. Now, for all you younguns, that may seem laughable but just wait, you’ll be here one day. So then, the search began.

Now, first, you have to understand. Big D is a wheeler and a dealer. He hates car shopping or really shopping of any kind for that matter. He can haggle with the best of them. He just absolutely hates it. So I knew when we started this shopping for a mattress thing, he wasn’t going to be much help. To my surprise, he was really invested in this though, until we actually started. We both became discouraged really quickly. Mattresses are expensive y’all! We shopped for a while, got defeated and finally just quit. We just couldn’t invest $6000 + in a mattress, no matter what it promised. That is more than we paid for a car in recent years!
