Easy Sweet Potato Casserole
Easy Sweet Potato Casserole is a southern classic. This traditional Thanksgiving recipe is so simple you will want to make it all of the time. A sweet candied pecan topping is the icing on the cake!
Sweet Potato Casserole: An Easy Treat
Thanksgiving is my favorite food holiday! This recipe is a staple on our holiday table for it and Christmas. As traditional as our HOMEMADE CORNBREAD DRESSING, it is a must on our menu for the holidays.
I have a few recipes that I can make but my Momma’s are just better. This is one of them. I have her recipe and its eerily similar to this one but hers is just better. That is how it works you know? Momma’s cooking is always the best. I sure hope my girls feel that way about mine.
Like so many other heirloom recipes, people tend to shy away from making recipes like these. I am here to tell you though, do not be afraid. I am going to make it very easy for you. It is so delicious, you just have to try it!

Tips and Tricks
- Crunchy Topping – This pecan based topping is hard to beat. We are team pecan here when you compare this recipe with those who have marshmallows. No marshmallows here! My granddaddy loved it this way and this is what we have for you. We are in the South after all! If you want to crisp it up a bit, put it under a medium broiler setting and pay close attention to it. The edges will bubble and get a little darker. Once that happens, take it out and let it sit for a bit. It will be crispy and delicious and reminiscent of creme brulee!
- Canned or Fresh Sweet Potatoes – Now this is just up to you. Its so easy to have fresh cooked sweet potatoes but if you want to use canned, by all means, do it! Whatever gets you cooking!
- 9 X 13 dish – this is a must for this recipe. It makes a lot! Feel free to split it into two smaller containers and freeze one for another time if you don’t have a big crowd to feed. It will freeze just fine for a month or so.
