Easy Cabbage in the Instant pot. Cabbage made flavorful and easy using the glorious Instant Pot. This cabbage is so easy and so good, you will be making fresh cooked cabbage even on a weeknight!

serving of cabbage on a grey plate

    Cabbage, easy and delicious!

There are so many things I love about my Pressure Cooker. How if I forget to thaw meat out I can still cook for my family relatively quickly. The thing that I love most is cooking frozen or raw vegetables.

The EPC cuts the time down tremendously on these. My Momma and I put up lots of field peas every summer and it normally takes about 45 minutes on the stove to cook them from frozen. In the IP, it only takes about 15 minutes.

See how over at our recipe for BUTTER BEANS. This is what makes the EPC great for those trying to eat healthy. You can steam veggies or cook them faster than normally making eating fresh a whole lot easier.

Cabbage is a family favorite but it too also takes a while to cook and I usually have to watch it very close to keep it from boiling over. Not with my good old EPC! Simply add in the flavor profile of ingredients you want and set it and it does all of the work.

Here is a favorite recipe I developed that makes for some really good cabbage! For another great cabbage recipe, check out this one for COOKED RED CABBAGE.

    How to make it!

I really almost feel bad saying, let's cook this. Really the EPC does all of the work, you just to the prep. Much like our ROSEMARY BEEF STEW, it is all about chopping and dump and go! Truthfully, you may never cook veggies the same way again!

    ~Ingredients

    • 1 medium head of cabbage, chopped
    • 1 smoked turkey leg or wing
    • ½ cup onion, chopped
    • 2 tablespoon minced garlic
    • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
    • salt and pepper to taste
    • 1 & ½ cups vegetable broth
    • ½ tablespoon apple cider vinegar

    ~Method

    1. Chop onions and cabbage and have all ingredients ready.
    2. Add onions, garlic, salt pepper, red pepper, turkey leg or wing and broth to pot. Place chopped cabbage on top, careful to not over fill. I press mine down a bit. Close the lid, seal the valve and set to manual or pressure cook for 30 min.
    3. When the time is up, let it NPR or natural pressure release for about 5 minutes, release what pressure is left by carefully opening valve.
    4. Open and remove turkey leg or wing. Take the meat off of the bone and place meat in with cabbage. Add the apple cider vinegar and stir.
    5. I usually let mine sit a few minutes after adding the ACV but they are ready to serve immediately if you wish!

    Tips and Tricks

Can I use pre chopped cabbage?

Yes! Grocery stores today provide lots of great tools to make cooking quick and easy. If you are willing to spend the money, the pre prepped cabbage is a great option.

Can I omit the red pepper?

Of course! Adding flavor profiles is something I love for people to play with. I simply give you a place to start. Some seasoning inspiration! Go crazy here!

Is smoked Turkey a healthy option?

Yes! While it is dark and light meat, it really is still good for you. It adds flavor and a little protein to the cabbage. You can substitute it with Turkey bacon if you wish for a little more intense flavor.

    Fresh Vegetables with Less Effort

The EPC is really a great tool to have in your kitchen. I use mine mostly for quickly cooking and shredding chicken and vegetable sides like this. It is a time saver and frees me up for cooking other things.

I challenge you to dust yours off and try this recipe out. Put your own spin on it and let me know how you like it!

I freeze the bones of several whole cooked chickens and cook them with carrots, celery, onion and whole peppercorns in my Instant Pot for two hours. Strain it, cool it and remove the fat cap and store in the freezer. Super, super good for you!
