How to Make Southern Chocolate Gravy

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • ¼ cup cocoa
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • In a heavy saucepan or large skillet, mix sugar, cocoa and milk. Stir over medium heat until it comes to a boil.

  • Boil for a few minutes and lower to simmer. Simmer for 7 to 10 minutes until thickened. Stirring often to keep from burning.
  • Once thickened, remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla.

Take care not to burn the chocolate gravy by having it over too high of heat. Stir frequently and when in doubt, turn the heat a bit lower.
