Easy Apple Pie Bars

Ingredients

For the Crust

  • 2.5 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup butter cold and cubed
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1/2 cup whole milk

For the Filling

  • 8 cups apples peeled and cubed
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

For the Glaze

  • 1.5 cups powdered sugar
  • 4 Tbsps half and half

Instructions

  • Peel and cut apples into bite size pieces. Add to a a large bowl. Mix in flour, sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Toss to coat. Set aside.

  • Preheat oven to 350° In another large bowl, Add in all purpose flour, sugar and salt. Whisk or sift to combine. Add in cold, cubed butter and cut in with hands, pastry cutter or two forks until resembles small peas. Mix in egg yolks and milk just until combined.

  • Turn dough onto a floured surface and press together to form a large ball. Cut the ball in half and work them into a cohesive dough separately, careful not to over work. roll out and place one in the bottom of a 9x13 greased pan. Brush lightly with egg white. Roll out the other and set aside.
  • Pour apple mixture over the top of the bottom crust and spread evenly. Top with other crust shaping to fit over the top. Brush top crust with egg whites. Bake for 30-40 minutes until golden brown. Allow to cool
  • Serve plain or mix up a glaze with powdered sugar and half and half, adding liquid in small amounts until glazes reaches your desired thinness or thickness.
