Southern Tomato Gravy

Southern Tomato Gravy is a classic Southern dish. People love to eat it but often will not attempt to make it. We share our recipe for a perfect and easy tomato gravy. Add that bacon on top and you will be hooked!

Ingredients

  • 1 Tablespoon Butter
  • 2 Tablespoons bacon grease
  • 1 & ½ cup chopped onion
  • 2 tablespoons plain flour
  • 1 & ⅛ teaspoon salt
  • 1 & ⅛ teaspoon pepper
  • 14oz can diced tomatoes
  • 2 cups tomato juice
  • 6 slices cooked bacon, optional cooked bacon, optional

Instructions

  • Heat bacon grease a butter in a large Skillet over medium heat. Add onions t cook until soft. 1-2 minutes.
  • Add flour, salt & pepper mix until soft ball or paste forms. Cook for I minute stirring.
  • Gradually add tomatoes & tomato juice. Boil at medium heat a whisk to combine. Lower heat to low & cook about 10 minutes or until thickens. Serve over biscuits and sprinkle with cooked bacon.
