Homemade Southern Sausage Gravy

Homemade Southern Sausage Gravy is a staple at any breakfast table. Crumbled cooked sausage, velvety white roux make a delicious breakfast whenever you need comfort to start your day.

– Ground pork sausage – Butter – Salt – Flour – Pepper – Whole milk

INGREDIENTS

In a large Iron or heavy skillet, crumble and cook pork sausage until browned. Drain and set aside. Reserve 1 tablespoon of grease from sausage to remain in pan.

STEP 1

Melt butter in the same pan with reserved pork drippings.

STEP 2

Once melted and combined, add in flour, salt and pepper.

STEP 3

Once the flour smell has gone, drizzle in milk, taking care to whisk mixture the entire time to break down the roux paste into the milk.

STEP 4

Bring to a boil over medium to high heat and cook until desired thickness. This should only take 3 to 5 minutes.

STEP 5

Lower heat to simmer and add cooked sausage back into gravy. Simmer for 3 minutes or so until sausage is heated through.

STEP 6

Serve over Homemade Buttermilk Biscuits.
