I almost feel guilty putting this into a recipe card because it is so very simple.

Tips and Tricks

Can I use the same method with other nuts?

Yes! This method applies to any manner of nuts your heart desires! We prefer the Pecan to all others but by all means use what you have on hand! The Roasted saltiness of this will have you hooked! No matter the nut!

What is the best way to prepare them for easy clean up?

I really like to line my pan with aluminum foil before roasting, this helps with clean up. Just note that if you do this, you will still need cooking spray to help keep them from sticking.

What can I substitute for Butter?

Margarine or any plant based butter substitute will work. You can also use coconut or another type of oil. Just be careful if you sub oil for butter, it has a different smoke point so you will want to keep a close eye on your pecans so they will not burn.

How long to Roasted Pecans keep?

Roasted pecans can last 6-12 month refrigerated or frozen in an airtight container. They are only shelf stable for about 1-2 weeks. The oil or fat they are cooked in make them subject to spoil easily. When in doubt, just refrigerate them.

  1. I purchased a large bag at Sam’s and the recipe says 5 min, stir then cook for another 3-5 minutes. They were perfect.

I believe the recipe is good, but the baking time was not good for my oven. My pecans burnt. I was by the oven the entire time. I’ll try it again with less heat next time.

        1. Yes! Everyone’s ovens are quite different that is why we talk so much about cooking times within the body of our posts on all recipes. Thank you for your rating and great feedback!

  2. How would you store the nuts. Do they need to be refrigerated or in an air tight jar. If making for gift what is the shelf life

    1. Great questions! I have updated the post to answer this! Roasted pecans are subject to spoilage due to cooking in fat. Therefore, it is best to keep them in an airtight container in the refrigerator or freezer. There they will stay good for 6 months, refrigerated or 12 months for frozen.

Twice the baking time needed. Cut back on butter also. Mine burned and were greasy. The package gave accurate baking times, but I hadn’t seen that. These were for an event and I couldn’t make another batch- salvaged them with a few sprinkles of tajin and served.

      1. So sorry to hear they didn’t turn out for you. These are deeply roasted and can sometimes be mistaken for burnt. Like other recipes, you are welcome to adjust to fit your taste. Also make sure you were using raw pecans as the recipes times are specifically for raw pecan halves.

I followed the directions exactly — using use raw pecans and flipping halfway through cooking time– continuing to cook the full time even though they smelled so good already. Once they cooled, they were perfect. I can’t believe such a simple recipe tastes so good.

  4. Oh dang! The cooking time was spot on. Maybe it was because I also used raw pecans? Definitely saving this recipe for the holidays!

  5. Perhaps my oven cooks hot. The first batch burned. Did it over, this time sprayed with Butter flavored cooking spray. Lowered temp to 250. Did 3 minutes, and then another 3. This time it worked. The pure butter has too low of a burning temperature.

Anytime you roast pecans the flavor is significantly enhanced. Notes I would like to add is to keep in mind roasting pecans causes them to shrink because the moisture is being baked out to some extent. Changes I’ll make next time is I’ll reduce the butter from 1 tablespoon. Two tablespoons was too much oil. The other change I only used 1/4 tsp of salt and stirred it into the melted butter and then poured onto the pecans. Because of the high butter contnet I’ll freeze the baked pecans to help keep them fresh. Bring to room tempreture and enjoy.

I am on the Keto diet and nuts are allowed so I’ll use these in moderation as a PM treat.

    1. I forgot to add to my comment that I would decrease the butter next time because there was a lot of butter left on the pan and when I’ve made roasted pecans before it wasn’t quite this way. They still taste good though

They turned out just great and I had to add another 6-7 minutes on. I live at sea level, so I don’t know if that makes a difference. But these are yummy.
