Christmas Crunch Snack mix

Christmas Crunch Snack mix is a Buttered Home Favorite! I have talked a whole lot about Nostalgic recipes like our SQUASH CASSEROLE and SWEET POTATO PIE. Food that evokes memories and warm feelings. This recipe is definitely one of those recipes.

I started making a variation of this when my girls were little. Over the years, we have tested and made adjustments to it to not only simplify the recipe but make it fit our tastes. While this recipe is a great one to have anytime, we make it at Christmas.

Whether you need a great little treat for your Christmas guests or a food gift item, This Christmas Crunch Snack Mix is a sweet little idea.

~ Method ~

  1. Preheat oven to 250 degrees Fahrenheit. In a large roasting or baking pan, mix cereal and chopped pecans.

  2. In a microwave safe bowl, combine Butter, brown sugar and corn syrup. Heat in the microwave 1 and 1/2 minutes. Carefully remove and stir to combine.

  3. Return to microwave and heat in 30 second intervals, stirring after each time, until boiling. This usually takes about 3 intervals for me, about 1.5 minutes.

  4. While still boiling, carefully remove from microwave and add salt, vanilla and baking soda. Stir well. Mixture will sort of bubble up and change color. Pour over cereal and pecan mix and stir well to coat.

  5. Place in the oven and cook for 1 hour. Stirring every 15 minutes. Pour onto a large sheet pan to cool. Snack mix will harden as it cools. Break apart and store in an airtight container. Enjoy!
